Seasons, colours, scent of Cinque
Terre.
Which is the best period to come and visit
this magic corner of heaven?
I was born in May, my favourite flower is violet, a particular kind of spekled violet, yellow and orange, called
here "viola ciocca", which fills the hills
and perfume the air.
That's why I think that the best
time to come and see the Cinque Terre is spring.
From April to the end of June,
in fact, Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso,
these five ancient pure small villages stretching
in the sea, are dressed in flowers, multicoulered flowers, and wrapped
in a delicious scent of "viola ciocca", roses, white grapeflowers
and orange blossom.
Alla Porta Rossa, the small cozy eco
friendly Affittacamere with its
enviroment quality-mark, lies in the heart
of the National Park of Cinque Terre; with the hotels,
B&B, houses and apartments of Manarola and
of the other villages, Alla Porta Rossa is caressed by this
special magic scent.
From the balconies of the rooms Sapore di
Sole (Taste of Sun) and Rugiada di Mare (Sea
Dew), the terrace of the suite Crème Caramel and
the apartments, which Alla Porta Rossa
offers, you can listen to the the
music of the sea and enjoy an unforgettable
romantic stay.
At the beginning of summer you can meet new and old fond tourists all over the world
diving into this natural corner listed by the Unesco
as a World Heritage Site and Protected
Marine Area. They relax in the sun,
swim in the clear green-blue waters at the small lovely inlets
called Palaedo and Marina, have a break on the rocks of
the renowned Via dell'Amore, the Lover's
pathway, connecting Manarola to Riomaggiore.
Here on this romantic path cut out of the steep cliffs overlooking the sea, there is also a little restaurant
bar, where you can have a rest tasting the
local products. You can not leave
Cinque Terre without pesto or a good glass
of white wine!
And also September is coming with its scent of grape, must, cellar and new wine,
the white wine simply perfect for an
apetizer in front of the sea and brethtaking
sunstes, for seafood and pasta, for rice and vegetable pies.
During the harverst, one of the most
fascinating natural events not to miss, the
farmers, men and women, carry baskets overflowing with golden grapes from their fields into the cellars; sometimes they sell them to the
Wine Co-operative of Cinque 5 Terre,
where you can buy not only wine and
Sciacchetrà, an excellent sweet dessert
wine, but local products as well to bring
back home.
Little by little nature here in
Cinque Terre changes its dress: new colours, nuances of red, yellow, orange.
Winter is coming with its empty "carruggi", the wind, the scent of hood-smoke and
of vegetable soup all around the cold and silent village.
From the balconies of Alla Porta
Rossa rooms Sapore di Sole and Rugiada di
Mare, from its apartments you can listen to
the music of the sea, the winter dark blue sea
in which a winter sky is mirrored... always
magic and always romantic. Also the silent winter here in Cinque terre is lovely and has its own particular
swing.
